We have teamed up with J&M Products to offer these bolt-on and go Spherical Front Control Arm Kits. We use J&M's Spherical Bearing Assemblies and press them into new OEM Ford Control Arms. We include the Ford Hardware and Instructions so this can be accomplished in less than 30 minutes per side.
These have proven to eliminate deflection in the arm and spindle. On the inside wheel, during a turn the spindle rotates about the caster arm ball joint and pulls the spindle forward increasing caster. Under heavy braking the opposite occurs with the stock rubber bushing as the caster decreases. This deflection in turn creates a toe change which causes the direction changes in the braking zone. The unpredictable feeling of which way the car is going under heavy braking will be solved with these bearings, steering response is also vastly improved because the bearing allows free movement of the arm through it's natural arc. Under heavy loads in fast transition turns, the bearings allow for consistent geometry throughout so your Mustang will go where it is pointed every lap. These bearings will help build driver confidence due to the consistency of the chassis.
In the options below you can add the OEM Performance Pack Rear mounted Front Control Arms. These arms are forged steel and feature a factory installed spherical bearing. This is a huge upgrade over the NON Performance Pack rear mounted front arm that is fabricated from tubular steel and uses a rubber bushing.
J&M uses the largest in the industry USA Made 1 inch spherical bearings are made from 52100 heat treated steel/hard chrome plated ball; the bearing race is heat treated high strength steel with a load rating of 70,820 psi when most others are rated at 48,000 psi. The bearing liner is not the typical PTFE liner but made from a thin sintered bronze wire net impregnated with PTFE powder giving it great load capacity and longer wear; this is the same liner material that is used in modern ball joints for a maintenance free long life.
This kit uses the Factory GT Performance Pack Control Arms with the Brake Cooling Deflectors. If you are upgrading from a Non Performance Pack you will gain the brake cooling deflectors. If you are running a hub mounted brake cooling system please see our Non Performance Pack Arm Kit. The Non Performance Pack Arms do not have the deflectors or the mounting tabs on the arms which saves some weight and also gives slightly more clearance for brake hose routing.
Compared to the stock rubber bushing that deflects this spherical bearing saves 9.5oz per side. If you are running a high grip tire on track these arms will prevent deflection which leads to toe and caster changes under high cornering loads. Spherical Bearings allow for chassis adjustments that are more accurate and do not change during cornering. Due to the spherical bearing design the suspension works better due to the non binding motion of the control arm. Rubber bushings have to twist and deflect, this influences chassis performance and response as the arm moves through its intended arc.
Choose From Our Drop-Down Menu for a Choice of Clear, Black or Red Anodize
*Note: We Purchase New OEM Ford Arm Assemblies, press out the old bushing and press in the J&M Products Spherical Bearing. These are suspension components that perform a function. Because everything is a very tight press fit there will be witness marks and scratches from this process. These products are functional components not show car products. When installed in the vehicle you will not see them.
